The undisputed protagonist of every noteworthy wedding reception is he, the one long imagined, dreamed of, designed: the wedding dress!

How many times as children have we fantasized about what our white dress would look like? Let’s just say we spent hours in the room leafing through magazines, trying to modify that dress with a pencil to make it perfect for us. We are sure that someone has still kept, among the pages of the high school diary, a sheet torn from some magazine, and looks at it, from time to time, thinking about the day he will go to the Atelier in search of his dress, the real one!

To give concrete help to future brides struggling with the difficult choice, we tried to undo some knots around which we often discuss with friends and relatives and, about which, many can’t wait to dispense advice.

We are talking about questions like: who and how many should accompany the bride to the Atelier, or what is the difference between a tailored suit and a tailored one? How long before must the definitive one be selected to avoid “last-minute” surprises?

These questions were answered by Piero Camello and Ciro De Angelis, two stylists who live and work on the island of Ischia and who for years have accompanied many brides towards their wedding day. </ h3>

  • Piero Camello is a talented stylist and a person with elegant manners and a gentle smile. He recently participated in events such as “Alta Roma” for the second consecutive year and “The Bride Show”, the latter in Dubai, bringing with him the Italian style and the warmth of the island of Ischia, leaving some in the United Arab Emirates! Meeting Piero in his “Chic Events” Atelier is a pleasant and relaxing experience: it feels like talking to a friend you haven’t seen since school and who explains to you how beautiful it is to work doing what you like best. What he likes most is creating wedding dresses, elegant dresses for any type of event and pleasing women of different ages.

1. Most brides already have in mind what their dream dress will look like. Does it often happen that someone completely changes their mind on the chosen model once they are in the Atelier?

«All brides come to me with very clear ideas, with photographs, newspaper clippings, various drawings. I listen to them and look carefully at what they show me, and when I realize that they feel at ease I like to ask a few questions to try to get to know them better because I believe that understanding a woman’s personality is very important to better define them. lines of the wedding dress that I will then create.

I must say that many accept advice and also allow themselves to be “tempted” by proposals that depart from the dress chosen initially. This moment is very beautiful because it is also an opportunity for them to get to know each other better, to carve out time to dedicate only to themselves and in which perhaps they become even more aware of the step they are taking.”

2. Today, a future bride has many opportunities to find the right dress: from e-commerce sites to shops that offer different dresses. Why should a bride choose a tailored dress?

«The clothes offered on the Internet, in magazines, target a huge audience. Those who opt for the tailored suit want something more. She wants her dress, the only one, the one that no one else will ever have. In a certain sense, the woman who chooses the tailored dress also wants to allow herself to be discovered a little, to express herself totally, to bring out aspects of her own character and sensations that I had not had the opportunity to express before. From a practical point of view, it is clear that tailoring helps to eliminate defects that may not disappear completely in a ready-made suit, ruining the final effect and risking not to satisfy the customer completely. ”

3. How much time passes from the choice of a tailored suit to its realization?

«The ideal time that must pass from the choice to the realization is three months. When the fabric has been identified, this is the ideal time. In two months it would also be feasible, but in the last week before the wedding, I always organize one last try so that the dress is perfect. I have experience of girls who in the last month have lost a lot of weight because taken by the organization of the ceremony they told me they could not even eat. If an already thin girl loses weight further, you notice and then the dress must be retouched until the last moment. ”

4. Who should accompany the bride for the choice of the dress in the Atelier?

“In my humble opinion, only the mother should accompany the bride. Or at most a sister. When girls arrive accompanied by several friends, I see that the moment of choice is not very peaceful; often, without realizing it, friends tend to recommend to the bride dresses that they like, according to their personal taste and this risks putting my client in total crisis, even if at that precise moment she does not realize it. Instead, the mother knows every single look well, she can recognize from her smile or from a simple gesture of her hand if her daughter feels that dress of her or not. ”

5. Can those who choose to get married in Ischia but come from far away can contact you for the creation of their own dress?

“Yes, absolutely. Also because I already have some models ready, clothes of various sizes and various kinds already packaged, but which need changes and must be customized. So I’m ready to respond to these requests, even with a series of accessories and clearly, I am available to organize some tailoring work with the client, as long as you contact me in good time. ”

  • Ciro De Angelis has loved fashion since he was a child. He is an eclectic stylist and a person who is always sincere and open to dialogue and comparison; it is thanks to these aspects that he manages to establish excellent relationships with customers, relationships that continue even when the party lights are off! Discreet, but punctual and precise in the advice to be given to women who put the dress of their dreams in his hands, Ciro likes to define himself as “a fashion craftsman” who builds the dress on the woman’s body without ever betraying the tailoring needs. In his Atelier DeA, on the Green Island, he welcomes and dresses international clients and celebrities.

1. Most brides already have in mind what their dream dress will look like. Does it often happen that someone completely changes their mind about the chosen model once in the Atelier?

“Yes, every bride has a dress in mind that she would like to see made. The clients of my atelier have always started from a basic idea, which was often then modified after the first try, which is that of the cloth, the lining dress made to the client’s measurements; thanks to it, she understands which part of her body she wants to highlight the most. After the test cloth, it often happens that the original idea is distorted or questioned. I like to intervene only when the decision has been made, recommending any further changes to enhance the beauty of the dress and the future bride.”

2. Today, a future bride has many opportunities to find the right dress: from e-commerce sites to shops that offer different dresses. Why should a woman choose a tailored suit?

«Because the tailored suit is exclusive. It has a different fit. The ready-made dress is not suitable for everyone, even if at first glance thrown in the mirror it seems to fit perfectly. In the work of making a pattern, the stylist works as if he were a painter, so the tailored dress is as if it were a painting placed on the bride’s body, who will also understand the right proportions and learn to enhance her strengths. . The creation of the dress also helps to establish a relationship of trust with the customer, because the tailoring becomes a sort of reading of the lines of her body. ”

3. How much time passes from the choice of a tailored suit to its realization?

“It really depends on the bride. Do you have clear ideas or not? In any case, I am of the opinion that to create a dress in a concrete and responsible way, it takes at least three months, because there are “mandatory steps” that every self-respecting designer cannot underestimate in order to do a good job. I’ve had requests in the past to make wedding dresses in twenty-one days, but I wouldn’t do it again, it’s not the way I like to work. For me, every detail must be perfect. ”

4. Who should accompany the bride for the choice of the dress in the Atelier?
“I like this question very much! Let me start by saying one thing: I don’t love either the Inquisition tribunal or talent juries. I’m not for extremes. I am convinced that the client is the only one who knows what she really does for her, but if I had to choose I would tell you either her mother or her best friend, who could possibly be her sister. In short, a strong point of reference who, however, is aware of her tastes, that she also knows perfectly the nuances of her character. If you are not accompanied by the right people, the moment of choosing the dress can become a moment of frustration and this should never happen.

I found myself both in the situation of having to advise and to witness the advice offered by others while carrying out my duties as a tailor. In those moments before the choice, I always look at the client’s face because I know that she communicates her state of her with her body. That is a moment of her only of hers. I always recommend never taking pictures because I like to think that on the wedding day no one knows what the dress will be like, too much sharing is never good. I love the surprise effect and I am convinced that every bride should be looked at that day as if it were a dream. ”

5. Can those who choose to get married in Ischia but come from far away can contact you for the creation of their own dress?

«Yes, it is possible, I have done this before. But there must be a certainty that the bride arrives a few days before the wedding on the island, to make the final test. There are always several changes that need to be made a few days in advance. On the other hand, it is I who build the dress, so who more than I can know the changes to be made? Even the smallest and most meticulous ones; as it could happen, for example, in the case of pregnant women, or brides who manage to lose up to 2 kilos in a month due to anxiety from preparations, for emotion, for stress. So yes, they can turn to me, but with this dispassionate advice: come to Ischia not too close to your wedding day! ”

I sincerely thank our stylists from Ischia, for giving me the time and congratulations for the beautiful creations and for the attention they dedicate to the brides who rely on you.
